Grain’s recent project, Next Gen Skills Academy, has just been featured in the Guardian on 23rd September, praising the programme as “a fresh route into the games, animation and visual effects industries through apprenticeships and dedicated college places.”
The UK is one of the world’s leading forces in gaming, animation and VFX. A collaborative venture between further education, higher education and the industry’s most recognised names, Next Gen Skills Academy encourages young talent through initiatives like work placements and mentoring schemes. It’s all about raising the UK’s education system to the same high standard as those of the industry itself.
Driven by the need to raise awareness, Next Gen asked Grain to create their identity and website. Supported by clean, contemporary typography, we fleshed out the identity on the website, with hero images promoting the quality and variety of the UK industry. The hard work has paid off: Ed Vaizey, the government minister for culture and the digital economy, has publicly introduced this initiative designed to give 16- to 18-year-olds a more interesting route into the games, animation and visual effects.
This is an absolute honour for us: it is very rewarding to be part of a project which encourages and nurtures UK talent in the games & VFX industries. This industry has been recognised and endorsed by the UK government as an alternative career track for young people to reach their full potential and succeed in these industries.
